Kolambapura: a Sinhala open world game you play in your browser
කොළඹපුර (Kolambapura) is a 3D open world game set in a Sri Lankan city and told entirely in Sinhala. What it is, how to play it, and why it runs without a download.
Most open world games reach Sri Lankan players in English, sometimes with a Sinhala translation added at the end. කොළඹපුර (Kolambapura) goes the other way. It was written in Sinhala first: the menus, the mission briefings, the street signs, the radio chatter and the dialogue.
The name is two Sinhala words. කොළඹ is Colombo and පුර means city, so Kolambapura is "Colombo city". You will also see it spelled Kolombapura or Kolompura. They all refer to the same game.
What kind of game it is
Kolambapura is a 3D open world game. You start with රු. 500 and a city you can cross in any direction, on foot or behind the wheel. Ten story missions run through the city, and between them the streets are yours: traffic, pedestrians, cash pickups scattered across the map, and police who take an interest if you give them a reason.
It is not a menu of mini games. It is one city, one story and the freedom to ignore the story for a while.
How to play

Follow the marker on the minimap to reach the next mission. Getting wasted or busted costs you part of your money, so once you are carrying a lot it pays to drive carefully. Missions matter more than cash if you want to move forward.
No download, no install
Kolambapura runs on WebGL, the graphics technology built into every modern browser. There is nothing to install and no plugin to allow. Open the game page, press play, and the city loads in the tab. Your progress saves in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick the story up later on the same device.
It plays best on a computer with a keyboard and mouse. On a phone, turn it sideways.
